About

A safe group for occupational therapists to discuss neuro-affirming practice, examine biases, analyse traditional approaches, value lived experience and learn from neuroscience how to best support autistic and ADHD clients.

Group Rules

PARTICIPATE HOW YOU NEED

It's important that this space stays a psychologically safe and confidential space for all. In saying that, if you'd like to just be an observer rather than active contributor that is entirely fine!

CLIENT CONFIDENTIALITY

All discussions require clients to be de-identified. Age, gender and diagnosis is fine.

LABELS AND TERMS

Autism rather than ASD, situational mutism rather than selective mutism, differences rather than disorder/deficit, co-occuring rather than co-morbid.

COPYRIGHT

When sharing others people’s posts, images and other content, do not infringe on their copyright or claim other people’s materials as your own or redistribute.

PRIVACY

Being in this group depends on our trust of one another. Some discussions may be sensitive or contain sensitive information, so what’s said in the group should stay in the group.

This practice aligns with the neuro-affirming paradigm, situated within the social and human rights model of disability.  We embrace neuro-biological differences as a natural expression of human diversity, and therefore not as a deficit to be cured or fixed. We acknowledge there are enablers and barriers to any performance in occupation (activity in which we use to occupy our time).

We provide a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQIA+ community

We acknowledge and lament the past and continuing plight of the traditional owners and custodians of the land, sea and waterways on which we work and live, and pay our respects to their Elders Past, Present and Emerging, and honour their communities and their  living culture.  We acknowledge that lutruwita (so called 'Tasmania') where we reside continues to provide the palawa with a meaningful connection to traditional food, ritual, medicine & craft as their way of being, doing and becoming.
